I’m obsessive over a few things; sunglasses, tea, ice cream, purple lippie, good books and coconut oil!
When it comes to picking favorites I can almost guarantee you the triviality in perfection is almost acute. I’d like to sit here and reminisce on the night I drove 50km for a bottle of coconut oil and how my soul danced to Love and other Grum but my doctorate in illustration should come in handy. Here are 7 tips for using coconut and why your life will never be the same again.
1. Make up remover
Even waterproof mascara has seemingly succumbed to the fact that a simple rub over your face is enough to write off a masterpiece. Just rub a little coconut oil on your palms and apply directly to your face as an oil cleanser and let it sink in for a few minutes while the heat from your body melts it. Then lightly wipe your face using cotton wool.
2. Deep conditioner
Since I started transitioning from relaxed to natural hair, I swear by coconut oil as the best prepoo hair conditioner. Apply it directly to your scalp a day before having it washed to moisturize and detangle the ends. Notice the difference? If you are anything like me and completely in love with your tresses, go a step further and use it together with your hair oil. 6 months and my hair is stronger than ever and the growth is remarkable!
3. Body scrub
I had to try this when I was down at the coast recently. Probably the easiest and most natural form of exfoliating that leaves your body moisturized and a little tingly.
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of coconut oil
6 drops of lemon water
Mix them together and allow to settle for about 30 minutes. Gentle apply to your skin and rub paying close attention to areas with dark circles and dry areas.
4. Cuticle oil
For I’ve struggled with weak nails since I can remember. Spending tonnes of hours calculating how to steal my mum’s fancy stash of nail tech and nail buffers, always getting caught and nothing seemed to help. Until I discovered the magic that is coconut oil! Regular application allows to condition and strengthen your nails by helping seal in the moisture to combat dryness and brittleness.
5. Night cream
Coconut oil makes for the perfect night moisturizer. The antioxidants act as great smoothening agents for fine lines and wrinkles not to mention pimples and dark circles.
6. Lip balm
Chapped lips? Say no more!
7. Coconut water face cleanser
Why not try using coconut water to cleanse your face instead of normal water? Your skin almost feels as light as the weather. You don’t have to splurge a couple hundred at the healthy you store, just walk up to your local market and buy a fresh coconut which will only cost you about Ksh40 and incorporate it in your routine tonight 😀
I hope these tips make for a useful addition to your beauty routine and don’t shy off from introducing your man to it, coconut oil makes for an amazing shaving cream!
Love and love,
